About
Thanks for looking around the Wallowa County ARES web site. I hand coded this site using W3C strict standards for XHTML and CSS2. I have not used tables for any layout, although I will use tables to present tabular information.
Development and maintenance of this site is done using several very useful tools, one of them not being a code generator.
I use the XAMPP software stack for its Apache Web Server, PHP engine, and MySQL database. The Xampp folks now have stacks for Linux, Windows, MacOS, and Solaris. You can't argue with sucess!
I do all of my development on a cheap laptop running Ubuntu Linux. In addition I use the BlueFish editor readily available through most Linux distributions.
To protect my and my client's code and images I have an old desktop box running Debian Linux with the Subversion version control server software installed. I then use RapidSVN as the client to check in code. On the Debian server I have a crontab job that runs once per day to backup the Subversion data files and transfer them to my hosting provider's web server. I have another crontab job running on the hosting computer to remove aged backup files so I don't wear out my welcome.
This site is fairly simple with some illustrative CSS techniques. Feel free to look through the code and download the style sheet. In addition, I have provided the sources in a zip file for you to look at.
I advocate the use of Linux for everyone. It's free and the wealth of software now available for everyday desktop/laptop use is enormous. Check the Links page to find out about Linux.
